Colts Super Bowl Win Closes the Final Chapter of Several Great Stories

As the scoreboard clock ran down Sunday night, and the Chicago Bears ran of their last few plays as an exercise in formality, the great stories that have surrounded the Indianapolis Colts for the last few years came to a conclusion with a mental exclamation point.

Colts head coach Tony Dungy and future Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning had both finally won the big one. The win, for Dungy, also represents the first Super Bowl victory for an African-American head coach.

The game started off with a 92-yard kickoff return for a Bears touchdown by Devin Hester. The Colt’s got going with a 53-yard touchdown connection from Manning to Reggie Wayne just past the halfway point of the first quarter. And, although the missed the extra point attempt, the team from Indy never looked back.

The Colts scored 23 more points to the Bears 10, and the rest was history. And, I do mean history, especially when it came to Dungy’s social barrier win. “"I'm proud to be the first African-American coach to win this," Dungy said just after the Super Bowl.

In addition, Dungy is a man a great faith who’s resolve was put to the test last year when his son James committed suicide. He acknowledged his religion, also that of his opposing coach, after the game. “"Lovie Smith and I are not only African-American but also Christian coaches, showing you can do it the Lord's way. We're more proud of that."

As for Manning, he’s now gotten the proverbial monkey off his back and will never have to face the ridicule of never winning the big one. But, despite his MVP performance, he was more than willing to spread the credit for this accomplishment that will help solidify his greatness.
"It was a great team win. We did it together,” Manning said.

Customer Reviews

Incredible Value and Performance
The Samsung LN46A550 was at the top of our list for quite some time while we researched the quality and value of Flat Panel LCDs that were in the 42 - 46 inch range. While other TVs may have done slightly better in terms of price, the quality of Samsung televisions have surpassed even Sony in recent years as they consistently rank as one of the top brands. This TV is no different.

We were not in need of all the bells and whistles that are advertised on the later models of the Samsungs, such as the 120Hz refresh rate. This feature may smooth out intense sports action but as the human eye can only process a 60Hz refresh rate, the 120Hz will often tire your eyes out after viewing too long (this is why looking at an LCD monitor for a computer too long tires your eyes out).

As for its performance, we could not be happier. The Dark Night on Blu-ray played via a PS3 hooked up with HDMI 6FT / 2M Super High Resolution Male to Male Cable by Eforcity looked absolutely stunning. The 1080p resolution on this TV is incredible. People may complain about artifacts and pixelation while watching TV but that issue (which I have experienced) is not the TV itself. The fact that it can play Blu-ray movies at full 1080p resolution flawlessly indicates that the problem lies with the video source. The free HD channels I get as a Time Warner subscriber in NYC look amazing, but they do get a bit pixely sometimes during intense camera movement and action. This is also added to by the fact that even channels that are supposedly broadcasting in HD are using compression techniques that lower the quality on the subscriber's end. Unfortunately there is nothing to be done about it but wait for HD to become the standard. Everything still looks great and I do not regret this purchase in the slightest. Even the sound quality surprised me (it may not be 5.1 surround but it was better than I expected after reading people's reviews here).

Excellent TV
This TV is great, Ive had it for a month and a half with no problems whatsoever. The color/tone was perfect straight out of the box for me. It is also extremely quiet and doesnt give off any heat (I have it in a very small room and the temperature in there and the rest of the house is the same). I also really like the matte finish of the screen. This tv sits directly across the room from a window where the glare was tterrible with a normal tv but it is significantly reduced with this one. That is one way this tv is actually better than the A650, which has a glossy reflective screen.

I use it for over-the-air HD tv which looks great (if you have a strong signal on your antenna) and blu-ray movies, but the thing i use it for most is my Playstation 3. These two were made for eachother! The games look stunning even though most of them are only 720p. This TV doesnt have the 120Hz refresh rate like the A650 (which Ive seen because my parents have the A650). The 120hz refresh rate is nice for nature programs, animated movies, and sports but I actually do not like it for live action movies and tv shows. I feel like it looks like you're on the film set, which sounds good, but it really makes it look fake to me for some reason. Videogames currently only output at 60Hz so the 120Hz refresh rate makes no difference for them.

Overall I am extremely happy with this TV and would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a nice HDtv, especially if your budget is a little tight.

Great hdtv
Great tv for a reasonable price. Excellent picture quality. We have a surround sound system and it truly is like being at the movies.

A Woman's Guide to Traveling with Babies

Having and raising a baby is undoubtedly both the most difficult and rewarding of women's life experiences. During the year after we give birth, women's bodies are still recuperating, our hormones are fluctuating, and our schedules - if we manage to have even a semblance of one - are topsy-turvy at best. Each of these factors is exacerbated whenever we are traveling with our babies.

Some people (likely those who have never had children or whose children are older) think we're nuts to travel with our babies. But, even though we've given birth, life marches on. There are new grandparents to visit and vacations to take and sometimes, we're even faced with taking our babies on business trips.

I had my son relatively late in life. I was 37 when he was born, so I was well established in my career as the executive director of a non-profit organization. My job entailed traveling throughout the United States, and as a single mom, I didn't have many options when it came to attending multi-day organizational conferences. When he was four months old, I flew with my baby to Los Angeles for four days, and when he was six months old, we flew to New Orleans for a week. I also took him on more than a few road trips, and learned some things along the way.

Babies on Airplanes

Pre-motherhood, we may have been annoyed by infants crying on airplanes. Now that we're mothers, we're sometimes mortified when our own baby starts wailing when we're in the air. Crying is sometimes due to air pressure that builds up in the baby's ears, so it's helpful to have something for your little one to suck on - like a pacifier or bottle - during take-off and landing. A small stuffed animal or a teething ring can also offer a welcome distraction. Beyond that, and the techniques you normally use to comfort your baby, there's not much you can do, so don't feel badly.

Most airlines offer infant fares, so if you have the means, you should reserve a seat for your baby and bring along a car seat. This is not only much safer for your baby, but it will also allow you to have some elbowroom so you can take care of him or her. Airlines generally allow you to hold children under two years old on your lap, but if it's a long flight, you'll be glad you bought the extra seat.

With tougher airline security measures, it may take you extra time to go through security, so plan ahead and give yourself plenty of time. Although bringing fluids past the security screening area is prohibited, exceptions are made for baby milk, formula, and baby food.

Babies in Cars

Needless to say, you must have an appropriate car seat for your baby when you travel by car. Beyond that, plan on frequent stops for diaper changes, feeding, and nurturing. Even if you're traveling with another adult, resist the temptation to take the baby out of the car seat in order to comfort him or her. Instead, find an off-ramp and take the time to get out and stretch your legs. In the long run, it's best for everyone.

Babies in Hotels

One of the most difficult aspects of traveling with babies is bringing all of the supplies you'll need while you're away. If you're traveling by air and will be staying in a hotel, consider shipping your supplies to the hotel prior to your arrival. Most hotels will hold packages for one to three days before a guest checks in, so take advantage of it. Shipping may seem like an unnecessary expense, but it beats having to haul everything from the airport to the hotel. Another option is to use an expeditor that specializes in shipping baby supplies to hotels in anticipation of your arrival.

When you make your hotel reservations, be sure that you request a crib. When you check in, ensure that the crib is both sturdy and meets safety standards. You may want to consider packing bedding for the crib, as hotel sheets are notoriously scratchy. Both the texture and the detergent hotels use to wash sheets can irritate your baby's skin.

Babysitting

One of the hardest things to do is to leave your baby with a stranger when you're in a strange city. Although it's a personal decision each woman needs to make, when I was traveling on business, I made sure to stay in premium hotels and called the concierge well before my visit to get recommendations on licensed child care providers. Based on his or her recommendations, I would call and interview nanny services, check their reputations, call their referrals, and check on their licensing status. I would then have a nanny come and stay in my hotel room with my baby. I would go to my conference, but check back every hour or two for updates. I was fortunate enough to have excellent childcare providers who understood both my baby's needs and my anxiety.

Traveling with babies can be daunting, but it doesn't have to be a nightmare. When you plan ahead, you can succeed in taking care of both your baby and yourself.
